About Us
In the early 1980s, the first farming operation was incorporated into the portfolio. Through a passion for conservation and the love of people, the hospitality industry was a natural progression. With commercial safari lodges in Thornybush and the Waterberg, a memorable safari experience is of top priority.
In 1998, Bentel Industries founder – Hilary Bentel, developed and operated the first BP Petrol Station in the portfolio. Since then, a further 6 Petrol Retail sites have been added.
Bentel Buffalo, founded by father son duo is an extremely exiting segment of Bentel Portfolio. Only the top genetics in East African buffalo are used to ensure only the best progeny.
Property development is synonymous with the Bentel name, Jonathan Bentel is the fourth generation property developer and will continue the Bentel property legacy going forward. With the experience of Hilary Bentel and the vision of Jonathan Bentel, we aim to strive to perfect and grow all the segments in our portfolio

The property division of Bentel Industries focuses on developing and owning diverse, high quality, real estate catering for a variety of tenants. Bentel Industries specializes in the full development process from conceptualization to implementation.
The main sectors in Bentel Industries are Petrol Stations, Retail, Residential and Game Lodges. Bentel Industries has recently branched into the redevelopment space. The latest redevelopment project that will take place in 2022 with the Linksfield Shopping Centre, whereby the retail space will be redeveloped into world class residential and retail offerings.
Bentel Industry is constantly looking for new development opportunities and acquisitions.
Fuel Stations
Having been in the Fuel Operations industry for over 25 years, Bentel Industries has a wealth of knowledge on the fuel retail space. Control and exceptional customer service has always been a priority in our philosophy. The majority of the Petrol Stations developed by the property segment are operated by Bentel Industries, with only two Sasol Stations in the portfolio not run by Bentel Industries.
Unique East African Genetics is our African breeding program. Bentel Buffalo started with a vision and a dream shared between father and son duo – Hilary and Jonathan Bentel.
A shared passion for wildlife and conservation set the foundation for what is today a thriving wildlife farming operation. Bentel Buffalo ensures an emphasis on not only genotype but also on phenotype. A stringent search for only the best cows was undertaken from diverse East African and Madikwe gene pools.

The hospitality segment of Bentel Industries was started with a 5 star tented safari camp on the family farm, Thandeka Lodge and Spa. Subsequently, an additional safari camp was redeveloped in the world renowned Thornybush Nature Reserve, Tangala Lodge , www.tangalasafaricamp.co.za
In 2018, the operations of Thandeka Lodge was leased out to the Extraordinary Group and rebranded as Safari Plains, www.safariplains.co.za.
